Cell Site Analysis in Action Manchester CPD training

Senior-Investigating-Officers-Course

The cell site experts were kindly invited to conduct CPD training on behalf of 18 St John Street Chambers last week. The event was held at the Radisson Blu Edwardian hotel in Manchester.

The talk was very well attended by solicitors from over twenty Manchester firms.

Cell site analysis expert Greg Robinson conducted the talk ‘Cell Site Analysis in Action’. A number of attendees had previously been to the CPD training course ‘Cell Site Analysis Explained’.

During the evening Greg covered truths and myths, looking at some of the common misconceptions regarding cell site analysis evidence. The scenarios covered are some of the most commonly occurring which Greg has encountered during delivery of evidence and cross examination in the last decade.

Changes to the delivery of Crown evidence was also covered along with radio frequency network surveys.

A case study was also covered with a review of a ‘cut throat’ defence case whereby cell site analysis evidence was critical in the acquittal of the defendants.

We are instructed in a number of cases where the Crown have not relied on cell site analysis evidence. Greg explained how the defence teams can introduce this type of evidence independently and showed some case studies where cell site analysis evidence supported the alibi.

The evening was finished with a quick section looking at mobile phone attribution. It is all very well producing cell site analysis evidence of a mobile phone, however, without strong attribution evidence it may well be insignificant.  Greg spoke about the many attribution techniques that can be used.

The feedback received has been excellent and hopefully everyone will find the information useful for future cases.

Many thanks to everyone who attended and thank you to 18 St John Street Chambers for organising this event.
