The cell site analysis experts from Footprint Investigations were invited to the offices of Horwich Farrelly Solicitors in Manchester recently to deliver CPD training.

This was the second invite and Cell Site Analysis Expert Greg Robinson, along with Commercial Director Andy Townsend, delivered an update training course ‘Cell Site Analysis in Action’. We have delivered this course, along with our original course ‘Cell Site Analysis Explained’ to thousands of criminal defence lawyers over the last 5 years. This course was slightly different than previous ones however as it was delivered to lawyers working in insurance fraud.

During the course of the afternoon topics covered were how to obtain the call data records from the network providers, how different data looks and how cell site analysis experts could be of assistance, as well as determining what work could be conducted by their own analysts.

A number of scenarios such as the one below were covered to show the type of case this can assist with such as ‘crash for cash’, ‘ghost passengers’ and fraudulent witnesses.

The conspirators make a fraudulent claim, stating a genuine collision has occurred involving their vehicles at a particular address.

Using cell site analysis this claim may be disputed by the insurance company showing not only telephone contact between the two parties prior to the collision (implying pre-meditation) but also the combined patterns of travel and subsequent
co-location at the site of the collision.

Although cell site analysis is mainly used in criminal cases there is still huge potential for use in the insurance industry to frustrate fraudulent claims.
